The new research looked at 5,805 subjects asking them about how many hours they sleep and how tired they’ve felt within the past month. After taking into account factors like race, age, education, marital status, number of children in the household, exercise, snoring and more, they found that of the study's 2,908 women 45 years old and younger, children were the only factor that was an issue in them getting enough sleep. In fact, those with children saw their odds of being sleep deprived rise by about 50%.

More specifically, 48% of moms under the age of 45 got at least seven hours of sleep, while 62% of women without kids got the same amount, and no other factors affected those sleep issues. And it’s not just the hours of shuteye that was affected, kids also impacted how tired they felt regardless of the sleep they had. Uounger women with children were tired 14 days per month, as compared to those without children, who were tired only 11 days a month.

And as for men, the study looked at all of the exact same factors and found that children “had absolutely no impact” on their sleep.
